Water Transformations: Canto Al Agua

March 22nd, World Water Day

Every March 22nd of each year for the past 16 years, the Colombian NGO, Canto Al Agua, celebrates the UN Water Day with people in Colombia and many other countries by gathering all, at noon local time, with friends to sign water songs at a local water body of their preference.

Two or three musicians became aware of local water issues from friends with environmental organizations that raised awareness about water pollution in Rio Bogota, a contaminated canal that once was a running freshwater river flowing along the Sabana de Bogota.

The water was so polluted that people had to appreciate or respect what once was a river and now it was more like an open sewer canal.

Canto Al Canto brings forth a spirit of appreciation and respect for water and all living beings in nature, with the belief that there are multiple concerns about water quality, quantity, and justice.

Tomorrow is March 22nd, and we encourage people to call some friends and meet at the local creek or lake, at noon local time, bring the musical instruments and your voice to intonate a connection with water.

¡Gracias!
