Water Transformations: A Drop of Water in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.

"I shook and broke apart as my family melted away"

The sweet smell of the Caribbean followed me up as I drifted into the sky
To the turquoise waters and palm trees, I bid happily goodbye

For as I moved, the air grew colder and it felt so right
I hugged the clouds eagerly and they hugged me back tight

I slept burrowed up beside raindrop friends and awoke above a mountain
I looked at it gleefully as the cloud released us like a fountain
I cried with joy for the free fall, before I hit the top

Then all the world was quiet, it all came to a stop

As I melted into the ice, I made all new friends
They told me we were a glacier, a family of ice that never ends
We were built together strong, built by the air with trust

I loved my new home and the stars that came at dusk
I spent a millennium there and it went by so fast
In the blink of an eye, present became the past
The ice was eternal, or so we had believed

That is until the sun began to cut us at our knees
Its rays were longer and its heat struck our core
And as we begged it to end, the sun only pushed more

I shook and broke apart as my family melted away
As ice turned to water in the Santa Marta range
Who would do this to us, I wondered through the pain
Who would sit back and watch as we fade away
I was the last to go, center of the family, last to disappear
We were a glacier, I cried woefully, now there’s nothing here
